Southeast Asia Part One: Tokyo to Saigon

Well, it's been a while, but I am finally in a place where I can share some pictures of our trip!

Mom and Dad dropped us off at SFO on Viola's birthday, October 29th.

Remarkably, the flight was pretty good - it wasn't a very full flight, so V had lots of room to roam around and there were no meltdowns on the 11 hour flight. We had a 3 hour stopover in Tokyo, which was actually quite nice because they gave us a little 'family room' with our own tatami mat and we relaxed a bit before our next flight of 6 hours to Saigon.

We arrived into Saigon at night, and went directly to the Majestic Hotel right on the river, where Viola was happy to have a bed to bounce on and met her first DRAGON FRUIT. We had room service of the traditional PHO soup (beef noodle soup) and tried to get some sleep.

The next morning we had breakfast on the roof of the hotel overlooking the river. We had a driver take us around Saigon just to see the sights and experience the city a little bit. The city is a maze of motorbikes and cars, all fluidly and chaotically merging. Horns are used constantly, in place of turn signals or actual traffic rules. We were happy to not be driving ourselves.

We saw somebody roasting what looked like a whole pig (hopefully it wasn't a dog) on the side of the road. We stopped for lunch and then headed to the airport for the next leg of our trip... Hoi An...
