Sort of spur of the moment we took a quick 3 day trip to New Orleans. We stayed at a little hotel near the French Quarter and ate either Jambalaya or Gumbo every single day.
V was sort of sick the whole trip with a cough and a low-grade fever, so she slept through most of our sightseeing (the flights were easy though, since she slept most of the time). We drove into the ninth ward to see some of the houses that were destroyed in the flood.
The next day we went on a swamp boat in the bayou, and caught sight of a young alligator, lots of herons, snakes, some nutria (the guinea pig looking thing), and a whole heard of wild boar roaming a swamp. The houses that seem to be floating in the bayou are people's fishing huts.
We also drove outside of town to a plantation famous for it's 300 year old oak trees and hit the aquarium and insectarium (V fed the stingrays! I did too - they suck on your fingers when you give them fish. It feels weird).
Coming home we got delayed in LAX for 4 hours until 2 in the morning which was no fun, but made it home safe and sound.
